Remember back when all you had to worry about was getting on the first page of Google. Ah the good old days.Today, the ground has shifted beneath our feet…again. We’re now in a Zero Click world.

Consider this little fun fact: Over 60% of Google searches now end without a single click to an external website.

Let’s take a pause here to reflect on that number. It’s 60% at the time you are reading this post. Let me ask you – where do you think that number will be a year from now?

Heck, where do you think that number will be by the end of this year? AI has upended the search game. And that will require marketers like you to adapt to this new world order.

In this post we are going to provide some steps you can take to make sure you are not falling behind.

What is a Zero Click World?

Let’s start with a quick over to make sure we are all on the same page. Zero Click is where users get the answers they need directly on search engines or social platforms without ever clicking through to a website.

Search engines like Google now display information in featured snippets, knowledge panels, AI-generated summaries, etc…

Here’s an example. I typed the word grapes into the Google machine. The screen shot below is what came back.

Notice the AI Overview on the left. That’s Zero Click in action. People are finding what they want right on the search results page, never visiting the source site. That’s great for people looking for info…but for the grape site that depends on traffic that hurts!

Why Does This Even Matter?

  • Less Website Traffic: Well, like I just pointed out, fewer users are visiting business websites, making it harder to generate leads and sales through traditional SEO. Ouch!
  • Increased Competition: The fight for visibility is now about being featured in these zero-click results, not just ranking on page one. Double ouch!!
  • Brand Visibility: Even if no one clicks your link, showing up in those special search features still boosts how well people know and trust your brand. That’s good!

What Can You Do?

Below are six steps to win in at the Zero Click game.

1. Own The Top of Google With Snippets and Knowledge Panels

  • Structure your content to answer common questions clearly and concisely.
  • Use headings, bullet points, and lists to make it easy for search engines to extract answers.
  • Add schema markup and structured data to help search engines understand your content.

Here’s an example of a knowledge panel for Paris.

2. Create Zero-Click Content
  • Create content that delivers value immediately—think infographics, short videos, and concise answers.
  • Share “micro-content” on social media that educates, entertains, or solves problems without requiring a click.
The key with your content: Get To The Point. Keep in mind the following best practices:
  • Use bullet points and lists to highlight your key points.
  • Stick to one main idea per post. Cut out the rest – it’s too much.
  • Start with your conclusion or solution, then layer in supporting information.
When it comes to the web…remember people don’t read. They skim and skip and then maybe they read.

3. Build Your Brand Authority

  • Focus on thought leadership and original research—these are more likely to be cited or featured in snippets and AI summaries.
  • Encourage reviews and testimonials to boost your visibility in local packs and knowledge panels.
Bottom line: The more reviews you get, the more likely you will show up. Things like star ratings and customer quotes gives your site credibility and helps boost rankings. It also helps to build trust.

4. Optimize + Leverage Social

  • For all businesses optimize your Google Business Profile: address, hours, phone, website, reviews and phone number.
  • Repurpose content for YOUR key social channels. In other words, make sure you are showing up where your prospects are hanging out. And remember you don’t have to be everywhere.

5. Your Website Is Your Resource Hub

  • Offer in-depth guides, exclusive content, and tools that can’t be fully replicated in a snippet or summary.
  • Create compelling calls-to-action that encourage users to subscribe, download, or engage further—even if they first encounter your brand elsewhere. Don’t let them read, view, and bounce.

6. Track New Metrics

  • In this new environment you need to think beyond site traffic. Instead look at:
    • Impressions: How many times your brand or content shows up on search results, social feeds, etc.
    • Brand Mentions: How often people mention your brand, even without linking to you.
    • In-platform engagement: Likes, comments, shares, saves, replies — basically proof people care about you inside the platforms, not just on your site.
Monitor how often your content appears in featured snippets, knowledge panels, and social feeds.

That’s A Wrap

The Zero Click world is here. Ignoring the issue won’t make it go away. Instead, focus on visibility, authority, and value. That’s the winning ticket.

Additionally, don’t chase clicks. Build a brand people recognize and trust, whether they ever land on your homepage.
