Alto-Shaam, based in Menomonee Falls, WI, is a recognized leader in the foodservice industry. Alto-Shaam offers commercial cooking solutions and systems, such as the original Cook & Hold oven and Combitherm ovens, to companies around the world. Alto-Shaam engaged Ascedia to develop a best-in-class web experience that establishes Alto-Shaam as the digital leader in their industry. With no less than 38 competitors across 18 product categories, nine distinct target industry segments and six audience types, all with unique needs….delivering a best-in-class website for Alto-Shaam was no small feat.

users first users always

Users First, Users Always

Learning as much as you can about the end user of your website is one of the most important and beneficial parts of the discovery process. Ascedia used a handful of research tactics to gather all of this information – competitive analysis, creative analysis, user testing and user persona creation, just to name a few.

focused wireframing

Focused Wireframing

Creating a user-centric experience takes more than a few extra steps; it means rethinking the entire design process. Wireframing the Alto-Shaam site started with the most important pages of the user experience based on usability testing and branched out from there. Leading with importance rather than chronological order helped us focus on strengthening the elements that mattered the most to the user. Subsequent designs focused on getting the user to those elements quickly and intuitively.

The Alto-Shaam wireframing was performed in a modular fashion rather than page-by-page. The site was designed as a series of interchangeable content pieces, like Lego blocks. This design approach paved the way for future marketing automation, which will serve up customized content to the user based on analytics.

To make Alto-Shaam's product detail pages more interactive, we found a unique way to showcase product features and benefits. Keeping in mind Alto-Shaam's drive to be best-in-class in everything they do, we wanted to provide visitors with a best-in-class experience. Ascedia created an interactive video solution that incorporated 3D rendering, animation, photography and videography to take users on an interactive tour of product features and benefits while they scroll through the page at their pace. These interactive features were produced for two product lines at launch: Combitherm and Cook & Hold.
