NAME AND TITLE

Aaron Kohlbeck – Technical Team Lead

MY TYPICAL WORKDAY

Nothing typical about any day except for the morning greeting from Joe Gajewski, who somehow manages to beat me in every morning. Some days it’s client meetings and responding to quote requests, some days it’s heads down coding, some days it’s troubleshooting, some days it’s helping out my teams and making sure everything goes smoothly. Most days, it’s a little bit of all that stuff.

HOW I CHOSE MY CAREER PATH

After three-ish years as a janitor in college, I got a job in a campus computer lab. That led to jobs in other computer labs and a job as the webmaster for one of the student newspapers. I enjoyed that stuff so much, I started looking for a real job doing the stuff I like. I eventually graduated and things just kind of followed after that.

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT WORKING AT ASCEDIA

I like the agency life – things are always happening and you have to be able to handle any situation thrown at you. I’ve known some of the people here at Ascedia for years and years, so the opportunity to work with them was too good to pass up.

EDUCATION

Bachelors of Business Administration – Information Systems from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. I took too many accounting classes.

HIGH SCHOOL MASCOT

Pirate

FIRST JOB

My first paying gig was working at a car wash. I got to drive all the weird cars because I was one of the only people who could drive a manual transmission.

BEST PIECE OF CAREER/PROFESSIONAL ADVICE I'VE RECEIVED

"You spend entirely too much time of your time at work, so it should be doing something you like." I’m lucky that I’ve been able to find something I like doing.

PERSONAL HERO

My wife. She works incredibly hard and is one of the smartest people I know.

FAVORITE MILWAUKEE HANGOUT

I like hanging out at Discovery World with my kids or Palm Tavern with my wife or the Milwaukee Makerspace on my own.

LAST BOOK READ

I just finished 11/22/63 by Stephen King.

PERSON I'D MOST LIKE TO MEET (LIVING OR DEAD)

Douglas Adams

FAMILY

I have one, yes. Also a dog.

WHAT I DO IN MY SPARE TIME

I can be found either reading something, doing puzzles with my wife or fixing up the old house we live in.

SECRET TALENT

Not so much of secret because of all my Facebook and Twitter posts about it, but I do okay at performing improv.

MOST MEANINGFUL ACCOMPLISHMENT

My most meaningful professional accomplishment was designing and leading the development of a project that had over 500,000 registered users within 4 months of launch. Most meaningful personal accomplishment, besides all the usual family stuff, is making an entire gymnasium full of kids laugh.
