NAME AND TITLE

Jessica Knaak -- Application Developer

MY TYPICAL WORKDAY

Right now, my days are pretty uneventful, and I LOVE IT! I come in, get some coffee, have a little water cooler chat and sit down at my Simpsons-covered desk. I don’t have a ton of meetings, maybe a daily scrum or two or an iteration meeting. Other than that, I am working with creative and front end to make sure our projects are aligning and developing. I look forward to the days where my schedule is slightly busier but right now, I’m enjoying slowing down and really being able to dive into my work.

HOW I CHOSE MY CAREER PATH

I was a hairdresser, it was an obvious move….Actually, I went back to school and the only class I liked was about databases. My teacher pointed me to information studies and here I am.

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT WORKING AT ASCEDIA

When I first started at Ascedia, I was struck by how Dan and Mike seemed so eager to help me learn. And to this day, the reason I love Ascedia is because Dan and Mike have confidence in me, talk to me like I know what I’m doing (which is usually true... LOL) and encourage me to learn and grow every day.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s of Science in Information Science and Technology from the School of Information Studies at UW-Milwaukee….It’s a mouthful.

HIGH SCHOOL MASCOT

FIRST JOB

Taco Bell, baby!

BEST PIECE OF CAREER/PROFESSIONAL ADVICE I'VE RECEIVED

NETWORK – meet as many people in as many different areas as possible and become their friends. You never know when you will be able to help them or they will be able to help you.

PERSONAL HERO

I didn’t make this up, but I really like it: my future self. I am always striving to be the best me I can be and as long as my personal hero is always one step ahead of me, I will never stop improving.

FAVORITE MILWAUKEE HANGOUT

Does Tosa count? It has beautiful houses, fun farmers markets, great restaurants and usually a laid back entertaining atmosphere. But if I have to pick Milwaukee, I pick Glorioso’s. Best deli in the city.

LAST BOOK READ

Facing Your Giants by Max Lucado

PERSON I'D MOST LIKE TO MEET (LIVING OR DEAD)

My mother-in-law. The stories I hear from everyone that knew her are amazing. She was someone I would have admired. (Plus, people say she would have loved me.)

FAMILY

First and foremost, my husband. But I have great family. We might not always talk but I know that if I needed something I could always call them. Special shout out to my mom: she has been my rock, best friend, head cheerleader, boss, hey-you-made-the-wrong-decisioner, super-woman. Thanks for everything you do for me!

WHAT I DO IN MY SPARE TIME

Doesn’t matter as long as it’s with my husband (I know, we’ve only been married 1.5 years... LOL)…oh, and PAINTING!

SECRET TALENT

I am musically inclined. I can play the flute, alto saxophone and piano.

MOST MEANINGFUL ACCOMPLISHMENT

Going back to school and graduating summa cum laude
