New Year, New Server

website hosting services

It can be challenging to keep up with changing technology, but it’s critical to keep pace when it comes to servers. Ascedia is invested in technology, and we take advantage of the latest developments to ensure everything is up-to-date for our clients. We implemented various enhancements in 2015 that will improve results for our clients in the coming year.

Ascedia’s hosting environment was built from the ground up, and we know it inside and out. This helps our response times and makes us more nimble than larger hosting providers. As a one-stop shop that provides both development and hosting services, you get a personal touch that you just can’t find anywhere else. I’m the Hosting Manager, but I’m personally involved in day-to-day operations. I interact frequently with our clients to check in on how things are going and to discuss improvements to their hosting services. With a larger provider, you’d only talk to a manager to complain about one of their minions.

With larger providers, you put in a ticket and wait for someone to respond, and if your issue spans multiple days, you may find yourself repeating your saga over and over to a new representative each time. At Ascedia, we develop a deeper understanding of your environment and site so that we can address issues quickly. You won’t end up talking to multiple teams or different resources who don’t know your situation. We are able to take our understanding of your environment, along with the intricacies of our other clients’ solutions, and build a holistic server environment that serves everyone.

I spent 2015 building the servers that would bring our environment up to a more modern standard for both development and hosting. In July 2015, Microsoft Windows Server 2003 was given an "end of life" status, meaning that there will be no more security patches or upgrades. We're wrapping up our migration of clients from these servers to improve their security and improve future development capabilities. We are also finishing a similar project with our Apache servers.

We also implemented quite a few new SQL and web servers last year, both on the Linux side and the Windows side. This gives our developers the ability to code on the latest PHP or .NET technology, which improves the security and functionality of these sites.

The technical details might not mean much to you – what really matters is that we are dedicated to providing state-of-the-art hosting services for our clients. Our Tier-3 data center is located within walking distance of Ascedia’s headquarters. In this space, we have our own rack that is under lock and key. Our co-location partner, TSR Solutions, is just as committed to providing stellar services to their clients as we are. In the event of outages or other issues, they work closely with our staff to find a resolution as quickly as possible.

Security is always top of mind for our technical services team, and in 2016 we will continue to invest the time, resources and energy to improve our environment. Click here to learn more about our hosting services, or contact our team to discuss your organization’s needs.
