NAME AND TITLE

Diane Charno -- Director of Client & Market Strategy

MY TYPICAL WORKDAY

One of the great things about agency life is the variety of things you get to do. On any given day, I may be helping clients develop their digital strategy, digging into analytics to see how we can optimize results, working on a new business proposal, or sharing our insights at a conference.

HOW I CHOSE MY CAREER PATH

I was always interested in advertising and technology. In high school, I was part of DECA and even began programming for “fun” in the 9th grade. My college course work emphasized marketing and marketing research, and my minor was computer science. I really could have gone either way – technology or marketing, but ended up in the ad industry. My first career job was at Laughlin/Constable and I’ve been in the agency business ever since. Eighteen years was spent with traditional ad agencies and the last seven years in digital.

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT WORKING AT ASCEDIA

I was fortunate to meet Dan and Mark when they first started Ascedia 16 years ago. Unlike many digital agencies still trying to figure things out at that time, Dan and Mark had some serious digital chops and proven experience working on complex web projects. That’s why I partnered with Ascedia to work on many of my own client projects. In 2009, it was a natural transition for me to join their team as it combined my love for marketing and digital. While Ascedia has grown a ton since then, not much has changed. We just have more super smart people who ALL have serious digital chops!

EDUCATION

Bachelors in Business Management from Alverno College

HIGH SCHOOL MASCOT

Go Rockets!

FIRST JOB

I worked at a clothing store where I did everything from running the register to fitting AND tailoring suits and tuxedos.

BEST PIECE OF CAREER/PROFESSIONAL ADVICE I'VE RECEIVED

This is a tough one as there are so many great pieces of advice I’ve received over the years, such as "work hard, play harder," or "never burn bridges." But, I still really like the classic “treat people the way you want to be treated.” All the work and results in the world mean nothing without the relationships. People come first.

PERSONAL HERO

My husband, Tracy! He works so hard and would move the world to help me and others.

FAVORITE MILWAUKEE HANGOUT

Year-round?  Club Paragon, our local Cheers. It’s full of friends, family and memories. For 11 days every summer? Wisconsin State Fair!

LAST BOOK READ

Fiction? The Girl on the Train. Looking forward to seeing the movie. Non-Fiction? #AskGaryVee

PERSON I'D MOST LIKE TO MEET (LIVING OR DEAD)

Diane Jung -- my aunt, who I’m named after.

FAMILY

Three sons, my husband and our miracle pup Chase. It’s just my husband Tracy, me and Chase at home now as my boys – Anthony, Jamie and Zach – are all grown up. And I have a grandson, also named Anthony!

WHAT I DO IN MY SPARE TIME

Lots of things, but I’ll say baking, gardening, and traveling (when we can get away.) I love trying new and vintage recipes, and sharing the goods with friends and family.

SECRET TALENT

Hmmm, I’d say drawing, but I don’t do it as often as I’d like. I actually was going to pursue art when I was younger. Now I enjoy being creative other ways. Oh, and I’m pretty good at knitting and crocheting too.

MOST MEANINGFUL ACCOMPLISHMENT

Raising my three sons! It wasn’t always easy while also building a career, but rewarding. Looking forward to lots more grandkids in the future.
