What makes Ascedia special? Our people. Every week, we'll introduce you to a member of our team so you can get to know us a little better.

NAME AND TITLE

Chris Wemmert -- Director of Account Services

MY TYPICAL WORKDAY

I do a lot of listening. Our department is focused on keeping our clients happy and deliver on our promise of being a true partner. I spend my days building relationships and keeping things running smoothly. Every day is different, which is what I like about working here.

HOW I CHOSE MY CAREER PATH

I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. I majored in Economics and my first job out of college was at a direct mail agency. Back then, the web was new so we had a very small digital team. I started as a coordinator on web projects and worked my way up through different roles. I came to Ascedia 10 years ago as an account manager, then did sales for several years, and now I’m using my knowledge of sales to help the account team grow that discipline.

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT WORKING AT ASCEDIA

When I joined Ascedia 10 years ago, it was a quiet, small but growing digital marketing agency with great clients. When I met Dan Early (our CEO), we got along and I figured that if the rest of the team was half as cool as Dan, it would be an easy fit. I like the people I work with, both inside the agency and our clients. It’s great to see that our clients are also becoming our friends – it’s a testament to how well we do our job as relationship builders.

EDUCATION

UW-Oshkosh: Bachelor of Science in Economics with an emphasis on Statistics, Supply and Demand, Calculus

HIGH SCHOOL MASCOT

Panther

FIRST JOB

Marcus Cinema in Racine, WI. It helped me develop my people-watching skills and turned me off of movie popcorn for life. Free movies were great, though.

BEST PIECE OF CAREER/PROFESSIONAL ADVICE I'VE RECEIVED

“Don’t get too comfortable.” I’ve been here a long time and am pretty comfortable so I break that rule daily, but I took on my new role as Director of Account Services to help me stay slightly uncomfortable and keep learning and trying new things.

PERSONAL HERO

My dad. He’s just a good guy. He’s always happy and he’d do anything for you.

FAVORITE MILWAUKEE HANGOUT

My backyard. I also enjoy hanging out at Ray’s Growler Gallery, but that's a secret - I don’t want it to get too busy.

LAST BOOK READ

Andre Agassi’s biography.

PERSON I'D MOST LIKE TO MEET (LIVING OR DEAD)

I wish I had gotten to spend more time with my grandfather. As I get older, I’m told that we are very similar. He didn’t understand computers so he didn’t really understand what I was into as a kid, but a lot of the hobbies I’m into today (“putzing”) are things he was into.

FAMILY

Wife Dana, daughter Brianna (8.75 years old)

WHAT I DO IN MY SPARE TIME

Anything outside. I collect hobbies: animals (cats, fish, dogs if I were allowed), gardening (growing anything, including coral in aquariums), cycling, running, tennis, golf, basketball, skiing, (anything athletic), traveling, drinking while doing any of the above, home improvement projects (cutting, pounding, drilling), water sports, smoking meat, cooking. I like trying new things and making mistakes and figuring out how to do better the next time. YouTube helps my success rate – it helps to learn from others' mistakes.

SECRET TALENT

I used to cut my friends’ hair in college in exchange for beer.

MOST MEANINGFUL ACCOMPLISHMENT

I recently got married. I'm pretty proud of joining our families of animals and kids.
